    (F04) The WELL Mind Concept: Nurturing Health for Different Work Scenarios

    Given the prevalence of mental health conditions among the working population, the workplace is increasingly being seen as an important means to not only promote health and wellbeing, but to enrich human experience. Through a diverse set of design, policy, and program interventions, the WELL Mind Concept addresses and supports drivers of mental health to improve the cognitive and emotional well-being of people spending time in built spaces.

    In recent years, there has been a significant transformation in work patterns, with companies adopting a growing variety of work styles. This shift, particularly with the rise of remote and hybrid work, prompts the question of how to extend the benefits of a healthy work environment to those not physically present in a centralized workplace. By embracing flexibility and remote work best practices, a healthy workplace can attract individuals back to physical work environments while simultaneously fostering equitable and health-promoting interactions and communication among employees. This inclusive approach creates opportunities for individuals with diverse needs to have full-time access to a healthy workplace, ensuring that everyone has the chance to flourish.

    During this session, we will explore various strategies to identify WELL Mind Features that can be adopted to accommodate different work styles, including the incorporation of Biophilic Design. We will provide examples of how to implement WELL Feature M02: Nature and Place; M07: Restorative Spaces; and M08: Restorative Programming in office, home, remote, and hybrid setups.

    Join us in unlocking the WELL Mind features as we guide you through scenarios that enhance human sensing and foster individuals' health in the workplace while embracing a sense of belonging.

    Finally, through an interactive “Think-Pair-Share'' exercise, we challenge attendees to re-imagine their own remote work experiences, and will explore new ideas about health developed through discussion with fellow attendees.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Describe how the WELL v.2 rating system supports cognitive and emotional health through different means: design, policy strategies, and programs.
    • Identify examples of how the design, programs, and policies of the WELL Mind Concept Features (M01-M11) can enhance comfort, mental health and well-being of individuals in different work settings.
    • Focus on WELL Features: M02: Nature and Place; M09: Enhanced Access to Nature; and M07: Restorative Spaces, and formulate ways to incorporate biophilic design strategies in different work environments.
    • Propose three design strategies that can be flexibly adapted to suit diverse work scenarios, with the aim of enhancing the health and well-being of individuals.
