LEED Rating Systems have been pushing the envelope of sustainability for decades. The energy codes are now starting to catch up with incorporating new performance requirements for things such as airtightness. The challenge is to incorporate all of these project requirements for continuous control layers into a successful, resilient, well-performing building. This presentation will review the new requirements, how they align to various LEED standards and ways to utilize the requirements during the design process, particularly when designing interfaces. Attendees will be guided through specific examples of interface details such as the roof-to-wall, which will be analyzed as to how they address the challenges, and the potential risks involved when misunderstood.
Learning Objectives:
Discuss the requirements to manage moisture, air, vapor, and thermal continuity in roof and wall assemblies.
Apply recent changes in energy codes to building enclosure roof and wall assemblies for improved energy efficiency.
Utilize various LEED standards across the various project phases in the design of the building enclosure and interfaces.
Apply specific examples and air barrier systems to current and future project designs.
