Katie Bergfeld is the Branch Chief for Building Performance and Enforcement in the Energy Administration at the Department of Energy & Environment. She has been with the agency since January 2015. Katie currently oversees a team that enforces two major building performance policies: the District’s benchmarking and Building Energy Performance (BEPS) program. As the District was the first jurisdiction in the nation to enact a BEPS law, she and her team remain at the forefront of setting best practices for other jurisdictions that are working to implement similar policies. She has an M.A. in Natural Resources & Sustainable Development from American University and B.S. in Environmental Studies from Emory University. She is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), LEED Accredited Professional (BD+C), and Project Management Professional (PMP).
