    Picture a master planned community three times the size in land mass of Manhattan, with 100,000 new homes west of Phoenix in the High Sonoran Desert. Meaning land of the valley, Teravalis is the biggest master planned community to date that is being developed from the ground up by the Howard Hughes Corporation (HHC). As champions of environmental stewardship, the community will prioritize sustainability for generations to come.

    In this case study, you will hear how a master planned community can enhance current best practices, influence performance driven policy, seek out & integrate new technologies, and collaborate to develop a flexible best in class plan that adapts to changes over decades – all to progressively manage and protect water in the desert.

    This session brings together a New York Times bestseller and award-winning author on water innovations, a LEED Accredited Architect, and development and ESG leaders from HHC to discuss global lessons in water conservation and regional opportunities.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Describe the challenges of water management in an arid, desert climate using metrics based on the HERSH20 Calculator developed by RESNET.
    • Demonstrate how the Howard Hughes Corporation has leveraged past master planned residential communities to push future studies and innovations in water management using tools developed for LEED certification including the US EPA and USGBC.
    • Incorporate approved and tested technology that allows water to be managed and conserved both inside and outside homes and communities.
