Mr. Scharfenberg has 20 years of experience involving institutional sustainability, energy management, and greenhouse gas emission inventory and mitigation. He currently serves as the Director of Sustainability for the Columbia Association where he is responsible for overseeing energy and sustainability programming for the community of Columbia, Maryland. This responsibility includes: overseeing the sustainable operations of more than 50 buildings; capital project planning and execution; serving as a liaison with federal, state, local, and utility partners; and directing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing aspects of the building portfolio. He holds Masters Degrees in environmental engineering and environmental policy, and is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM).
